Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 20, commencing at 10:35 a.m. for 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk with Senator the Hon Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the talk is as follows.

1. The two ministers affirmed that, as “Special Strategic Partners, ”Japan and Australia will continue to strengthen their cooperation in following up on the October 6th Japan-Australia-India-U.S. Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the October 7th Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”

2. Minister Motegi and Foreign Minister Payne also confirmed that the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) Ministerial Interim Meeting videoconference scheduled to be held this afternoon would be an opportunity to make the 9th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM9) next year a success by discussing the direction of cooperation with the Pacific Islands region in realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
