The Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America held preparatory consultations on Host Nation Support on October 15th and 16th via video teleconference. The lead negotiators, Mr. Yutaka Arima, Deputy Director-General, North American Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Donna Welton, Political-Military Bureau Senior Advisor, Department of State exchanged views on mutual contributions to the alliance and agreed to continue coordination on dates and a framework for formal negotiations. Other participants included Mr. Taro Yamato, Deputy Director-General, Defense Policy Bureau, Ministry of Defense, and additional representatives from the U.S. Departments of State and Defense.
