Video message by Foreign Minister Motegi
for the Friends of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT)

On October 1, Foreign Ministers of the Friends of CTBT, Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of Provisional Technical Secretariat, Preparatory Commission for the CTBT Organization released video messagesOpen a New Window. This year, the Ministerial Meeting of the Friends of the CTBT was supposed to be held during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week. Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, the video messages of the Foreign Ministers of the Friends of the CTBT were released instead of holding the meeting.

In the message, Minister Motegi stated this year marks the 75th anniversary of the first ever use of nuclear weapons and the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki must never be repeated. He also underscored that we must promote the entry into force of the CTBT and strengthen its monitoring capabilities to deter nuclear tests.
