Japan-New Zealand Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
On September 15, commencing at around 11:00 a.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with Rt. Hon. Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand. The overview is as follows.
1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Peters expressed his gratitude for the Japanese government’s search and rescue activities related to the accident of the livestock transport ship "Gulf Livestock 1" and requested continued Japanese participation in the search for missing persons. Minister MOTEGI said that he was saddened by the accident and that the Japan Coast Guard was still involved in the search. Minister MOTEGI extended the Japanese government’s continued willingness to assist however possible.
2. Both Ministers reaffirmed their intention to continue cooperation, including on regional issues under the “Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between Japan and New Zealand.
