On the Democratic Transition Framework for Venezuela presented by the United States of America

1. On March 31(local time), 2020, the United States of America announced a Democratic Transition Framework for Venezuela. This Framework proposes a pathway which includes setting a date for simultaneous Presidential and National Assembly elections, and the holding of free and fair elections in Venezuela.
2. Japan continues to strongly urge that issues be resolved democratically with the broad participation of the people of Venezuela and that democracy be restored expeditiously. From this standpoint, Japan supports the U.S. stance to pursue constructive efforts on the pathway towards the restoration of democracy. Japan will continue to work closely with the United States and the international community to this end.
