Submission of the Report on the 2nd Symposium on Science and Technology Diplomacy by Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs


1. On 16 January 2020, Prof. KISHI Teruo, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, presented the report of “the 2nd Symposium on Science and Technology Diplomacy” (summary (English) (PDF) / summary (Japanese) (PDF)
), which was organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) on 11 December 2019, to WAKAMIYA Kenji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs. In this symposium, we reviewed the activities of the Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs so far and discussed the future of the Science and Technology advisory system.
2. State Minister WAKAMIYA expressed his appreciation for the contribution of Prof. KISHI to the 2nd Symposium on Science and Technology Diplomacy and stated that he would like to further promote Japan's science and technology diplomacy referring to the report.

Science and Technology Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Teruo KISHI, Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, was appointed as the first advisor in September 2015, and has been conducting various activities since then. The Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs supports the activities of the Minister for Foreign Affairs on matters of science and technology, aims at strengthening the collaboration with the advisers and related parties in the science and technology field of other countries, and advises the Minister for Foreign Affairs and related departments on how to incorporate matters of science and technology in the planning of various foreign policy strategies.
