International Transport Security Symposium
1. From November 12th to 14th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan organized the International Transport Security Symposium on nuclear and other radioactive materials in collaboration with the Japan Atomic Energy Agency/Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (JAEA/ISCN) in Tokyo. The Government of Japan has long attached great importance to strengthening transport security and has played an active role in this field such as compilation of the Joint Statement on Transport Security as a lead country at the Nuclear Security Summit in 2016.
2. Approximatrely 120 officials participated in this symposium from 37 countries interested in the transport security as well as from international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), nuclear industries, and related Japanese ministries and agencies.
3. In this event, participants from each country and the IAEA who are engaged in the transport security shared their good practices about their experiences, implemented measures and domestic systems with other participants.They also actively exchanged their views on common challenges regarding the transport security.
