Situation in Bolivia (Statement by Press Secretary

1. Japan is closely following the situation in Bolivia after the Presidential Election on October 20th, including the resignation and exile of President Morales.
2. Japan values the role played by the Organization of American States (OAS) in the said election and takes note of its audit. Japan further expresses its sincere condolences for the death and injuries resulting from protests concerning the election.
3. Japan calls on all parties in Bolivia, a country with which Japan traditionally shares friendly relations, to refrain from acts of violence, and hopes for a prompt and peaceful resolution of the situation in a manner that reflects the will of the Bolivian people and respects the rule of law and democracy.
