Convening of the National Dialogue on the Situations in the Northwest and Southwest Regions and Release of Political Detainees in the Republic of Cameroon

1, Japan welcomes the successful convening of the National Dialogue on the situations in the Northwest and Southwest regions of the Republic of Cameroon from September 30 to October 4 in Yaoundé, as well as measures taken to ease tensions such as releasing political detainees including members of an opposition party.
2. Japan continues to pay close attention to the situations in the Republic of Cameroon, a linchpin of the peace and stability in the whole Central African region. Japan hopes that recommendations made at the Dialogue will be steadily implemented under the initiative of President Paul BIYA.
3. Japan will continue to support efforts by the Republic of Cameroon towards its peace and stability in cooperation with the international community.
