On October 7, commencing at around 11:55 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Masahisa Sato, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with H. E. Mrs. Lamido Ouseini Salamatou Bala Goga, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad, in charge of African Integration and Nigeriens Abroad of the Republic of Niger, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. In opening statements, State Minister Sato sincerely welcomed Minister Delegate Lamido Ouseini’s attendance at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and stated that Japan seeks to expand cooperation in the future, including in the development sector.

2. State Minister Sato also noted that the stability of Niger is essential for the stability of the Sahel and Lake Chad regions, and that Japan seeks to provide assistance through international organizations and make a contribution to the stability of Niger and the region. He also noted that Japan would provide food assistance for improving food security in Niger.

3. Minister Delegate Lamido Ouseini expressed appreciation for Japan’s initiatives in such areas as health and migration issues, and promised cooperation towards TICAD 7 next year.

4. In addition, the two Ministers held an exchange of views regarding cooperation in the international arena including the situation in North Korea and Security Council reform.
