On October 6, commencing at about 11:35 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Hon. Mr. Malanji Joseph, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zambia, who is visiting Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kono stated that he was delighted that the Japanese Public and Private Sector Joint Mission for Promoting Trade and Investment in Africa led by His Excellency Mr. Manabu Horii, then-Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Zambia, that the Japan-Zambia Trade and Investment Promotion Seminar was held, and that Japanese companies’ interest in Zambia has been increasingly growing.

2. Following that, Minister Malanji expressed his gratitude for the welcome from the Japanese side, as well as sympathies for the people affected by the natural disaster damage in western Japan.

3. In addition, both Ministers confirmed continued cooperation toward settling the ongoing negotiations for the bilateral investment agreement in order to further strengthen bilateral economic relations.

4. Furthermore, Minister Kono indicated that Japan would provide equipment in the field of medical care and health. Minister Malanji expressed his gratitude for the assistance from Japan including health, education, and agriculture, which plays a major role for Zambia’s economy.
