1. Japan co-hosted the Senior Officials Meeting of the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) with the Palestinian Authority for the first time in Ramallah on July 4, 2019.

2. Mr. Masaharu Kono, Representative of the Government of Japan and Special Envoy for the Middle East peace, attended from Japan, and Dr. Riad Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate of Palestine, attended from Palestine. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Burnei, Vet Nam, Republic of Korea, Jordan, Egypt and UNRWA.

3. During the meeting, the difficult situation in Palestine was shared among the participants, and they shared the view that they would continue supporting Palestine vigorously. Among the participants, lively discussion was held on potential cooperation under the CEAPAD framework, and they reaffirmed the importance of incorpolating private sector’s vitality into the growth of Palestine. 4. Side-by-side with the meeting, a gourp of private sector business representatives from Indonesia visited Palenstine on July 3. They participated in a business matching event with Palestine companies. In the presence of Special Envoy Kono and Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority H.E.Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh as witnesses, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation was also signed between the Palestinian Chamber of Commerce and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce. Further, the members of CEAPAD took this occasion to visit the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP).
