Exchange of Diplomatic Notes for the Entry into Force of the Agreement
between the Government of Japan and the Government of Canada
Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services
Between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Canadian Armed Forces
(“Japan-Canada ACSA”)
1. On 18 June, in Tokyo, the Government of Japan and the Government of Canada exchanged diplomatic notes for the entry into force of the “Japan-Canada ACSA.”(PDF) With this exchange of notes, the Agreement will enter into force on 18 July, 2019.
2. The “Japan-Canada ACSA” establishes frameworks, such as the payment procedures for the reciprocal provision of supplies and services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan (SDF) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The Agreement will facilitate the smooth and prompt provision of supplies and services between the SDF and the CAF. The Agreement was signed on 21 April, 2018, in Toronto, by His Excellency Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
3. Closer cooperation between the SDF and the CAF will strengthen Japan’s security and will also enable Japan’s more proactive contribution to international peace and security.
