Exchange of Notes between the Government of Japan and the Multinational Force and Observers
concerning the status of the Self-Defense Forces of Japan in the Multinational Force and Observers

1. On April 3 (local time), Mr. Keiichi Katakami, the Ambassador of Japan to the Italian Republic, and Mr. R. Stephen Beecroft, the Director General of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), signed and exchanged Notes between the Government of Japan and the MFO concerning the status of the Self-Defense Forces of Japan (JSDF) in the MFO (English (PDF)
/ Japanese (PDF)) in Italy.
2. The purposes of the Notes include confirmation of the legal status of the personnel of the JSDF dispatched to the MFO, so they can operate smoothly.
3. Japan intends to make a further contribution to the peace and stability of the Middle East, the foundation for peace and prosperity for Japan, through the dispatch of these personnel to the MFO.
