On October 6, commencing at about 9:40 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Hon. Alie Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, who is visiting Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. At the outset, Minister Kono wholeheartedly welcomed Minister Kabba’s participation in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting. In addition, he stated that he would like to strengthen the friendly relations between Japan and Sierra Leone through close cooperation with the new administration, and work together on not only bilateral relations but also important international issues.

2. Following that, Minister Kabba expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for Sierra Leone, and promised cooperation toward TICAD7 next year.

3. Furthermore, Minister Kono indicated that Japan would provide food assistance for improving food security, and mentioned the development of economic relations in the private sector including the dispatch of the Agribusiness Mission to Sierra Leone by Japanese companies in September this year. Minister Kabba expressed gratitude in response.

4. In addition, both Ministers held an exchange of views regarding cooperation in the international arena, including the North Korea situation and Security Council reform.
