The Commissioner-Genral of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to Visit Japan
1. Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East(UNRWA), will visit Japan from December 3 to 6.
2. During his stay, the Commissioner-General Krähenbühl is scheduled to meet with government officials and give a lecture meeting.
3. Japan is proactively implementing assistance for the stabilization of Middle-East including assistance to Palestine Refugees, and this visit to Japan by the Commissioner-General Krähenbühl is expected to further deepen the relationship between Japan and UNRWA.

UNRWA is a UN agency established after the first Middle East War to provide assistance and protection to refugees expelled from Palestine. UNRWA’s services encompass health, medical care and education.

The Commissioner-General Krähenbühl has served in his current position since March 2014, after serving as Deputy Head of Delegation in Bosnia-Herzegovina at the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), Head of Operation in the Balkan in the Headquarters of ICRC, Special Advisor at the ICRC President’s Office and Director of Operations at ICRC.
