Commencement of negotiations on amendment of the Japan-UK Nuclear Cooperation Agreement
1. The Government of Japan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK) exchanged views on how to handle the Japan-UK Nuclear Cooperation Agreement following the UK’s planned withdrawal from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). Both sides shared the view to commence negotiations on the amendment of the Agreement in order to reflect the replacement of safeguards arrangements in the UK.
2. The dates of negotiations will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
