Signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Overseas Private Investment
Corporation (OPIC) of the United States of America

1. On September 21st 2018, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) was signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) of the United States of America.

2. There is vast demand for development capital in developing countries, including the Indo-Pacific, a region Japan and the United States places importance. In order to meet this growing demand, the mobilization of the private sector is increasingly vital.

3. The MOC seeks to strengthen cooperation between JICA and OPIC, which has wide experience in financing private sector projects in developing countries, on the exploration and due diligence of possible co-financing and co-investment projects.

4. The MOC is one example of the cooperation between Japan and the United States under the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy”. It is envisioned that close collaboration between the two entities will promote investment by Japanese and American companies and respond to the need for development capital in the private sector of development countries, thereby contributing to their sustainable development.
