The Eighth Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue

  1. On September 3, the Eighth Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue was held in Singapore.
  2. From the Japanese side, Ambassador (Policy Planning, International Security Policy) Kansuke Nagaoka, Deputy Assistant Minister, Foreign Policy Bureau, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the National Security Secretariat, Cabinet Secretariat, the National Ocean Policy Secretariat, Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Defense and the Japan Coast Guard attended this dialogue. From the Singaporean side, Ambassador Mary Seet-Cheng, Senior Specialist Adviser, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Defense, Singapore Police Force and the Maritime and Port Authority participated.
  3. The Dialogue covered a wide range of issues including the importance of the rule of law at sea, maritime security issues in major sea lanes, capacity building assistance for maritime law enforcement capabilities, anti-piracy measures including through utilizing the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) and cooperation within the multilateral frameworks. The delegation also paid a visit to the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) on the following day.
