Visit to Japan by Her Excellency Mrs. Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President-elect of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly
1. H.E. Mrs. Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President-elect of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, will pay an Official Working Visit to Japan from Wednesday, August 29 to Friday, August 31, 2018.
2. During her stay in Japan, the President-elect is scheduled to have meetings with Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan and Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
3. It is expected that this visit to Japan by the President-elect will promote the various international contribution initiatives that Japan is pursuing at the United Nations and strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the United Nations.

The President-elect H.E. Mrs. Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés was born in the Republic of Ecuador and has served as the country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, and Coordination Minister of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Republic of Ecuador. H. E. Mrs. Espinosa was elected as the President-elect of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly at the UN General Assembly on June 5 this year. Her term as President-elect of the UN General Assembly will run from September 2018 until September 2019.
