Foreign Minister Kono received a courtesy call from Dr. Naser al-Hariri, President of Syrian Negotiation Commission, for 20 minutes from 5:25 pm on April 9th.

1. Minister Kono expressed his concerns on the heightened tensions in Syria and that he calls upon all relevant parties for the cessation of violence. He stated that the Government of Japan supports the UN led political process. Furthermore, Minister Kono mentioned that Japan has provided over 2 billion USD of humanitarian assistance since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis. He expressed that the Government of Japan will continue to urge all relevant parties to work towards the achievement of peace and provide appropriate aid to Syria and its peripheral countries.

2. Dr.al-Hariri responded by expressing that he is well aware of and deeply appreciates the aid that the Government of Japan has provided Syria and its peripheral countries. He mentioned that the political process is crucial for the resolution of the Syrian crisis and that he expects the support from the international community, including Japan.
