On March 2nd, for about 20 minutes from 5:55 p.m., Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. William Lacy Swing, Director General of International Organization for Migration (IOM), during his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Minister Kono commended Mr. Swing for his 10 year’s contribution as Director General for IOM and stated that he highly regarded the role of IOM in addressing humanitarian crises effectively in Asia and Mr. Swing’s leadership in the institutional reform of the organization.

2. In response, Mr. Swing expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance. He stated that cooperation between IOM and Japan had become ever more important in coping with humanitarian crises. He shared his hope to further enhance cooperation in the future.

3. Minister Kono and Mr. Swing also exchanged views on the international situation.
