Foreign Minister Kono Receives a Courtesy Call from the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator

On February 20, for about 20 minutes from 5:20 p.m., Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Sir Mark Lowcock, United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator, during his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Minister Kono welcomed Sir Mark Lowcock and stated that he highly valued the role of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in addressing humanitarian crises effectively and efficiently. He expressed his hope to further deepen the cooperative relations between Japan and OCHA, indluding good use of Kobe office.

2. In response, Sir Mark Lowcock expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance. He stated that cooperation between OCHA and Japan had become ever more important in dealing with humanitarian crises. He shared his hope to further enhance cooperation in the future.

Minister Kono and Sir Mark Lowcock also exchanged views on the international situation.
