Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities in South Sudan
(Statement by Press Secretary Norio Maruyama)
1. Japan welcomes the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities, Protection of Civilians and Humanitarian Access by the parties in South Sudan at the High Level Revitalization Forum in Addis Ababa on December 21. Japan praises the efforts by the Government of Ethiopia, other IGAD countries and the international community including Troika to achieve this agreement.
2. Japan strongly hopes that the agreement will be strictly implemented in South Sudan. Japan also hopes that the parties in South Sudan will recognize that this agreement is the first step towards a longlasting peace and stability in South Sudan and will agree without delay on a more comprehensive revitalization of the Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS) of 2015.
3. Japan will continue to support, in partnership with the international community, the efforts towards peace and stability in South Sudan.
