The Elections of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies in Nepal

1. Japan welcomes the voting at the elections of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies in Nepal on December 7th in a generally peacefeul manner without major confusion.
2. Japan deployed an election observer mission composed of 10 members, led by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, H. E. Mr. Iwao HORII, and the mission visited voting places. Based on the results of such visits, we acknowledge that the votings of elections of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies in Nepal were held in a free, fair and transparent manner.
3. Japan expects that outcome of the elections will be determined in accordance with an appropriate and fair process. We also expect that political processes after the elections will proceed smoothly and will continue to support Nepal’s efforts for further consolidating its democracy.
This is the first election for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies for Nepal under its new constitution promulgated on September 2015.
The election was divided into two phases: the first phase of the election was held on 26th November and the second was held on 7th December. The outcome of the election will be announced in the middle of December.
