The first round of negotiations on Japan-EU Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement
1. The first round of negotiations on Japan-EU Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA) will be held in Tokyo on November 8 and 9, 2017.
2. This meeting will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Yuji Amamiya, Negotiator for Treaties, European Policy Division, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; and on the EU side, Mr. Joachim Luecking, Head of Unit, Aviation Safety, and other representatives from the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport, European Commission, and other officials from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
3. The BASA aims to enable effective aviation safety oversight as avoiding duplicated inspections by aviation authorities of both Parties through the mutual acceptance of inspections and certifications, and the cooperation in the aviation safety oversight, thus enable to reduce the economic burdens on the aircraft operators of Japan and the EU.
