Message of condolences by Foreign Minister Taro Kono following the damages caused by the earthquake that occurred in Central Mexico

Following the damages resulting from the earthquake that occurred in Central Mexico on September 20 (at approximately 3:00a.m., Japan time; approximately 1:00 p.m. on September19, local time), Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered the following message of condolences to H.E. Dr. Luis Videgaray Caso, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States.

  • I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and the people of Mexico regarding the damages caused by another earthquake following the earthquake that struck off the Pacific Coast of southwest of Mexico on September 7.
  • The Government of Japan stands ready to provide any assistance to Mexico.
  • My sympathy is with the bereaved and I sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of the affected people as well as the prompt restoration of the damaged areas.
