Emergency Grant Aid for four countries in the Middle East and Africa affected by the famine

1. On September 19, the Government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 11 million US dollars for four countries in the Middle East and Africa affected by the famine through United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

2. This Emergency Grant Aid is to provide humanitarian assistance for Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen and Northeast Nigeria which have been suffering from the famine. The Government of Japan, in cooperation with international organizations, provides humanitarian assistance such as water and sanitation, including the response to cholera epidemic, health nutrition insect pest control and prevention and others.
