On September 15, commencing at 4:35 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, presented letters commissioning Dr. Sen Genshitsu and Ms. Junko Koshino as Special Envoys for EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN, thereby entrusting them with duties relating to Japan’s 2025 World Expo bid. The overview is as follows.

1. At the beginning, Minister Kono stated that he hopes Dr. Sen Genshitsu and Ms. Junko Koshino will proactively promote the appeal of Japan, Kansai and Osaka both domestically and overseas as the Special Envoys for EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN.

2. Dr. Sen Genshitsu and Ms. Junko Koshino said that they will actively promote EXPO 2025 OSAKA when they visit foreign countries.

(Note) H.E. Mr. Yoshifumi Okamura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Tokyo the International Conference on African Development (TICAD), United Nations Reform, Human Rights and International Peace and Stability, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also entrusted as a Special Envoy for EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, JAPAN as of the same day.

In addition to Japan, France (Sacré, Greater Paris), Russia (Ekaterinburg) and Azerbaijan (Baku) have also announced their candidacies as host countries for the World Expo 2025. The host country will be decided in a vote at a Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) general assembly scheduled to be held in November 2018.
