Foreign Minister Kono Attends ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings
1. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Manila, the Republic of the Philippines, from August 6 to 8.
2. In Manila, Foreign Minister Kono will attend ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings (Japan-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Japan-Mekong Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting).
At these meetings, Foreign Minister Kono will discuss such issues as Japan’s support to strengthen the ASEAN Community, promotion of Japan-ASEAN cooperation, strengthening of the EAS, initiatives of confidence building at the ARF, and regional and international issues including North Korea and South China Sea. Foreign Minister Kono will explain Japan’s views on these issues and coordinate policies with participating countries.
Foreign Minister Kono will also have a bilateral foreign ministers’ meeting with the Philippines, the chair of ASEAN, and the Japan-US-Australia Trilateral Strategic Dialogue (TSD) among others. Bilateral foreign ministers’ meetings with China, the Republic of Korea, and other countries are also being coordinated.
