International Symposium: Energy Security and Investment in Asia
1. On July 13th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize “International Symposium: Energy Security and Investment in Asia” at Mita Conference Hall.
2. With particular focus on Asia, this symposium will offer stakeholders an opportunity to discuss how energy security, which is essential to economic growth, will be secured and further strengthened in Asia under the rapidly-changing global energy landscape, such as the structural change in the international energy supply and demand and energy price stagnation.
3. On the day, Motome Takisawa, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs will deliver the Policy Speech on energy and resource diplomacy of Japan by Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs. After that, Laszlo Varro, the chief economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA), will make a keynote speech on the latest analysis on the world energy investment, followed by the discussion by Japanese and overseas on the perspectives on the energy market in and the prospects of energy investments in Asia.
4. At the Lunch Reception, a presentation on the high efficiency Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants, which is one of the advanced technologies in Japan, will be made. Food products from Fukushima and other disaster-affected areas also will be provided to promote food safety and reconstruction in Japan.
