1. The Government of Japan extends congratulations on the declaration by Dr. Haider Abadi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq on 11 July (10 July local time) that Iraq has gained victory over the battle against the Islamic extremist organization ISIL in Mosul. The victory of the Iraqi Security Forces in Mosul, which was a major stronghold for ISIL, is an important step in the fight against terrorism and for the peace and stability in Iraq.
2. In Iraq, there continues a serious humanitarian crisis, including the influx of a huge number of internally displaced persons, in addition to the ongoing fight against terrorism. Japan supports the international efforts to fight against terrorism, and is determined to continue making the utmost contributions in non-military fields such as humanitarian aid while coordinating closely with the Government of Iraq, relevant countries and international organizations, in order to restore peace and stability in Iraq.
