2017 Disaster Management Seminar for Foreign Missions in Tokyo

1. On June 26 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will co-host a seminar on disaster management measures for the personnel in charge of disaster management of 158 foreign missions in Tokyo. Mr. Masaki Noke, Director-General, Consular Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will give opening remarks in the seminar.

2. Since 2014, MOFA has organized for foreign missions in Tokyo seminars for the purpose of providing information on disaster management measures and strengthening communication in case of disasters. Last year, MOFA co-hosted with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government the seminar, which explained the information liaison structures by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in disaster situations.

3. This year, the seminar will be held for all foreign missions in Tokyo to further strengthen the cooperation with them before the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. Such cooperation also contributes to promoting Japan as a tourism-oriented country.

4. It is expected that networking among attendants, who are in charge of consular affairs and responsible for the safety of their own nationals, will be strengthened by the seminar.
