Fiscal 2016 Disaster Management Seminar for Diplomatic Missions and foreign delegations in Tokyo to be held in Tokyo
1. On June 16 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will co-host a seminar on disaster prevention measures for the personnel in charge of disaster prevention at diplomatic missions and foreign delegations in Tokyo. Mr. Masaki Noke, Director-General, Consular Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Hideaki Mizukoshi, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, are scheduled to give opening remarks at the briefing session.
2. MOFA and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will invite the personnel in charge of disaster prevention at embassies in Tokyo, comprising mainly of the leading 20 countries and territories in terms of foreign visitor numbers to Japan (Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) estimates for 2015), including China, the Republic of Korea, and the United States, and in light of events such as the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place in 2020, will hold a policy briefing session on issues such as the information liaison structure at the time of disasters, focusing on the theme of foreign tourists’ safety and peace of mind during disasters. Holding this seminar is also expected to strengthen human networks, in preparation for disasters, among those responsible for ensuring the safety of their own nationals such as those in charge of consular affairs, as it provides an occasion to meet others in one place.
