Foreign Minister Kishida to Visit Ishikawa Prefecture
(Fifth Round of the “Local to Global” Project)

1. On June 3 and 4, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to visit Ishikawa Prefecture with the diplomatic corps in Japan, circumstances permitting. Minister Kishida is scheduled to be accompanied by Mr. Shunsuke Takei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, for the entire visit.

2. This visit constitutes the fifth round of the “Local to Global” Project, following on from the visits to Miyagi Prefecture in November 2016, Okinawa Prefecture in February 2017, Kumamoto and Fukuoka Prefectures in March 2017, and Aomori Prefecture and Hokkaido in April. This project strives to make the attractiveness of regional areas in Japan known throughout the world, as well as attract many foreign visitors and investments to Japan. The upcoming visit aims to deepen dialogue with local people on how to convey the appeal of Hokuriku region and Ishikawa Prefecture, which is coming under the global spotlight as a leading sightseeing destination in Japan, and thereby contribute to the further revitalization of the region.

3. During his visit, Minister Kishida will visit Kanazawa City and tour locations such as appealing sightseeing spots and facilities that produce local specialties along with the diplomatic corps in Japan, as well as exchange views with local people, in order to promote the attractiveness of the Hokuriku region and Ishikawa Prefecture to the world. In addition, Minister Kishida will attend a symposium entitled “Dialogue with Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida: Conveying Hokuriku region and Ishikawa Prefecture’s Appeal to the World” that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organizing at Kanazawa University. Minister Kishida is scheduled to deliver a keynote address and participate in a panel discussion at the symposium.
