Visit to Japan by Mr. Roberto Azêvedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO)

1. From May 21 to 23, Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will make a working visit to Japan upon invitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

2. During his stay in Japan, Director-General Azevêdo is scheduled to meet with high-levels of the Government of Japan. He will also exchange opinions with relevant organizations.

3. The multilateral trading system centered upon the WTO is the basis of global trade and a pillar of Japanese trade policies. In the exchange of opinions between high-levels of the Government of Japan and Director-General Azevêdo, the issue of promoting free trade, maintaining and strengthening the multilateral trading system etc. is planned to be discussed.

The above visit was originally planned for from May 15 to 18, and it has been rescheduled due to some changes of circumstances on the part of the WTO.
