Visit to Japan by Mr. Roberto Azêvedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO)

1. From May 15 to 18, Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will make a working visit to Japan upon invitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
2. During his stay in Japan, Director-General Azevêdo is scheduled to meet with high-levels of the Government of Japan. He will also exchange opinions with relevant organizations.
3. The multilateral trading system centered upon the WTO is the basis of global trade and a pillar of Japanese trade policies. In the exchange of opinions between high-levels of the Government of Japan and Director-General Azevêdo, the issue of promoting free trade, maintaining and strengthening the multilateral trading system etc. is planned to be discussed.
