Additional Emergency Assistance to Sri Lanka in response to the Garbage Mound Collapse at the Disposal Site

1. On April 18, upon the request of the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Government of Japan decided to provide additional emergency relief goods (floodlight equipment, poisonous gas detectors, high accuracy GPS, mobile toilets, etc.) to Sri Lanka following the damage caused by the collapse of garbage mound at the disposal site in Meethotamulla, Colombo.

2. Upon the request of the Government of Sri Lanka, and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, Japan decided to provide additional emergency assistance to Sri Lanka to meet its humanitarian needs.

【Reference】
On April 14, the collapse of a garbage mound at the disposal site in Meethotamulla, Colombo, affected a large number of people which include loss of lives and has caused physical damage. According to the Government of Sri Lanka, as of April 18, 29 people died, 11 people have been injured, and 1059 people have been affected.
