On March 16, commencing at 3:15 pm, for approximately 15 minutes, Mr.Nobuo Kishi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Michael LODGE, Secretary-General of International Seabed Authority (ISA).

1. At the outset, State Minister Kishi congratulated Mr. Lodge on his election as Secretary-General of ISA at the Assembly of ISA in July last year. State Minister Kishi further stated that Japan attaches great importance to the role of ISA in strengthening the rule of law at sea, and Japan will continue to support ISA as a member of the Council of ISA since its establishment and as the largest financial contributor to ISA.

2. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation to Japan’s contribution to the activities of ISA, and expressed his expectations that Japan continue to cooperate with ISA as ISA plays an increasingly important role in administering the mineral resources in the deep seabed.
