The Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund to Visit Japan
1. Mr. Howard Bamsey, Executive Director, Green Climate Fund (GCF), will visit Japan from January 31 to February 2. GCF is a fund that was established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2010 in order to support the climate change measures of developing countries.
2. During his stay, Executive Director Bamsey will hold talks with relevant members of the Japanese Government, including officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as give a lecture, among other activities.
3. Japan has actively supported climate change measures through GCF, for example by deciding to contribute 1.5 billion US dollars to GCF in 2015 (PDF)
, and participating in the GCF Board meetings. Japan hopes to further strengthen cooperation with GCF through Executive Director Bamsey’s visit to Japan.
