“The Second G7 High-Level Meeting on Maritime Security”

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the Second G7 High-Level Meeting on December 8 in Tokyo as a follow-up to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hiroshima.

2. Japan, as the G7 presidency, took the initiative to lead discussions over maritime security, and the G7 Foreign Ministers issued the “G7 Foreign Ministers’ Statement on Maritime Security (PDF)Open a New Window” at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hiroshima. This is a second high-level meeting of its kind, following the first meeting held by Germany last December. With the aim of engaging in further discussions to address common challenges on maritime security, officials from G7 states, outreach states, and international organizations as well as prominent scholars and experts will attend this meeting.

3. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will attend this meeting from Japan and Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, will deliver an address in the opening session.
