Events Related to World Tsunami Awareness Day
1. In December last year, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution designating November 5 as “World Tsunami Awareness Day” on a joint proposal by 142 countries including Japan.
2. This is the first year in which World Tsunami Awareness Day will be observed. On and around November 5, activities to raise awareness of the threat of tsunamis will take place all over the world, including the Relay Tsunami Disaster Drills for “World Tsunami Awareness Day” (in Chile, Japan, Indonesia, and Hawaii) and the High School Students Summit on “World Tsunami Awareness Day” in Kuroshio (in Kochi Prefecture) (PDF).
