Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee

1. On October 20th, 2016, the 27th Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee will be held in Ottawa, Canada.

2. The Japanese delegation will be headed by Mr. Keiichi Katakami, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs as Japanese Co-Chair and joined by officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and other organizations. The Canadian side will be represented by Ms. Christine Hogan, Deputy Minister of International Trade as Canadian Co-Chair and joined by officials of Global Affairs Canada and other ministries.

3. The meeting will be convened on the basis of the meeting between Prime Ministers of Japan and Canada in May this year, where the leaders concurred to modernize the Japan-Canada Joint Economic Committee (JEC). The discussion will focus on priority areas of cooperation, including infrastructure, energy, science and technology cooperation, improving business environment and promoting investment, and tourism and youth exchanges.

4. Furthermore, in advance to the meeting on the 20th, Deputy Minister Katakami will visit Washington D.C., United States of America, to have an exchange of views with officials of the U.S. government.
