Exchange of Views between Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Sugiyama and United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power
1. On October 7, Mr. Shinsuke Sugiyama, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, held an exchange of views with United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power, who is currently visiting Japan.
2. Vice-Minister Sugiyama and Ambassador Power agreed that 1) North Korea’s nuclear tests and missile launches pose an unprecedented threat of a new dimension and it is necessary to respond more resolutely than in the past, 2) at the United Nations Security Council, it is essential to ensure the strict implementation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and promptly adopt a new resolution that stringently restricts the flow of people, goods, and funds to North Korea, and 3) to that end, the members of the United Nations Security Council, including Japan and the United States, must work together in close cooperation.
