Congratulatory Message from Foreign Minister Kishida to Mr. Boris Johnson on His Appointment as the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

1. On July 14 (July 13 in local time), Mr. Boris Johnson, MP, was appointed as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom. In this regard, on July 14, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent a congratulatory letter to Secretary Johnson.

2. In his letter, Minister Kishida expressed his congratulations on Secretary Johnson’s appointment and conveyed his intention to further deepen the close relationship between Japan and the UK. Furthermore, Minister Kishida stated that Japan and the UK were the closest security partners in Asia and Europe respectively and that he hoped to further promote cooperation in security and defense, which has been progressing dramatically in recent years, together with Secretary Johnson.
