Summary of the Fifth Round of the Negotiations for a Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)

1. The fifth round of the negotiations for a Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was held from Monday, June 27 to Thursday, 30 in Tokyo, Japan.

2. From the Japanese side, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki, Representative of the Government of Japan for Free Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement Negotiations (Chief Negotiator), and representatives from relevant ministries attended this round of meeting. From the Turkish side, Mr. Murat Yapici, Director-General for the EU Affairs (Chief Negotiator) and representatives from relevant ministries participated.

3. At the meeting, the both sides discussed the areas of general provisions, dispute settlement, trade in goods, trade in service, investment, customs procedures, intellectual property rights, electronic commerce, government procurement, labour, competition, SPS, TBT and final provisions.

4. The both sides decided to work on scheduling the dates of the sixth round of negotiations to be held in Turkey, through diplomatic channels.
