The Terrorist Attack in Iraq
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura)

1. We are deeply shocked and outraged by the suicide attack with a car bomb at Karada District, a main commercial area in the central city of Baghdad, on July 3 which have taken many lives and left many injured. We express our sincere condolences to the victims and their families.
2. This indiscriminate and atrocious act of terrorism has been committed just before the Eid Al-Fitr Holiday, the end of holy month of Ramadan. The Government of Japan strongly condemns such heinous attack against civilians. The Government of Japan expresses its strong solidarity with the people and the Government of Iraq, and will continue to make utmost efforts for the peace and stability in Iraq.
