The Terrorist Attacks in Iraq
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura)

1. Japan is deeply concerned about the recent series of terrorist attack in Iraq which has caused many civilian casualties. In particular, we are deeply shocked by the successive explosion of Vehicle Borne IEDs on Wednesday, 11th May in Sadr City, Kadhimiya District and Mansour District, which caused many deaths and injuries. We express our sincere condolences to the victims and their families.
2. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and the Government of Japan strongly condemns such indiscriminate and atrocious act of terrorism. Japan expresses its solidarity with the Government of Iraq and their people, and hopes for further progress on national reconciliation in Iraq through peaceful political process.
