Cessation of Hostilities in Yemen
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura)

1. Japan welcomes the entry into force of the cessation of hostilities in Yemen on April 11th. Japan highly appreciates the mediation efforts made by Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, which has brought this cessation of hostilities into effect and has been contributing to the stability of Yemen.

2. Japan strongly hopes that this cessation will continue to be observed and lead to a progress of the UN – facilitated Peace Talks which will be held in Kuwait from April 18th.

3. In coordination with the international community, Japan will continue to support the mediation efforts by Mr. Ismail as well as the efforts towards peace by the parties concerned.

4. Japan has been providing large scale humanitarian assistance to address the serious humanitarian situation in Yemen. Japan hopes that the peace will be achieved so that we can provide further assistance that will draw on our unique strength.
