Japan-the Republic of Korea High-level Policy Dialogue for Development Cooperation

1. Japan and the Republic of Korea held the policy dialogue for development cooperation on April 1 in Seoul, Korea.

2. Headed respectively by Mr. Takio Yamada, Director-General of International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Lee Yong-soo, Director General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, extensive discussions were held on development cooperation policies of both countries, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC), World Humanitarian Summit, and development assistance provided by both countries to tackle a wide range of development issues including infrastructure development, global health and disaster risk reduction.

3. Japan introduced its enhanced policy measures for quality infrastructure investment to realize “quality growth”, emphasized in its Development Cooperation Charter. Both sides discussed the possibility of collaboration to improve disaster risk reduction. Japan and the Republic of Korea reaffirmed their continued cooperation on development issues as the only two of the OECD/DAC donor countries in Asia on a bilateral basis and in the international arena.

4. Japan and the Republic of Korea agreed to have the next development policy dialogue at a mutually convenient time next year.
